You'll have seen me mention Vita Liberata many times here on the blog and that's because so far I have enjoyed all the products I've used from this brand and always recommend them to friends. I wouldn't necessarily say they have the best products on the market as there are many other good options out there but I'll admit this is still my first choice when I want a tan without too many chemicals. And I think this is what actually sets Vita Liberata apart from other brands. Their products are formulated mainly with organic ingredients, are fragrance free and do not contain alcohol, parabens, silicones or other components that may be harmful for the skin.
Vita Liberata Invisi Foaming Tan Water is not a new product, it was launched almost a year ago but I only got to try it recently. As I didn't use a clear self tanning water before I was very curious about this formula and couldn't wait to see if a product with no colour guide in it can produce an even tan.
I quite liked the idea of an invisible mousse with no marks on clothes or beed sheets and I really loved the texture. It is very much like water and when you pump it out it transforms into a white foam that is so fine and airy. But you need to apply it very carefully.
Because the product is not tinted you cannot see where you are placing it so it requires a bit more skill and patience to spread it evenly than if you were to use one with a colour guide.
However I am quite experienced with applying a self tanner in general and I didn't have any issues with streaking or it developing uneven. I was actually quite surprised how flawless and natural looking my tan was.
I applied it with Vita Liberata Tanning Mitt which really helps in spreading the product more easily. The only areas I need to pay more attention to when using this self tanner are my wrists. I find it a bit difficult to get a smooth colour transition towards the palms with a transparent product but if I apply a body butter beforehand definitely helps.
Vita Liberata Invisi Tanning Water is available in three versions : light-medium, medium-dark and super-dark. I chose the super dark one because I have fair skin and the lighter versions usually tend to look a bit yellow rather than bronzy on me. After one application I got a medium shade of bronze, very natural looking and not orange at all. So even if it is labeled as super dark, don't expect a very intense tan with one layer only. When I want a deeper colour I always apply two layers in a row as the texture is very light and dries down pretty fast. It does not feel sticky at all on the skin and it's really comfortable even when you apply more coats. And what I love most about it is that it does not smell of DHA as the tan develops.
However, I wouldn't advise you to use this on your hands because without seeing exactly where and how much you are applying it's hard not to miss any spot or to control the intensity. I've personally never had good results with a mousse on my hands, I prefer to use a lotion or gel for that. My favourite is this one from Clarins which is not exactly a fantastic tanner to apply all over the body because it's a bit sticky and takes a long time to dry but for the hands or feet it works amazing! I always have the most natural results when using this.
I would also recommend not using body tanners for your face, especially the dark ones to avoid getting an overly bronzed fake look. A self tanner formulated specifically for the face will give you a more realistic colour. Lancome Flash Bronzer Face Gel ( review here ) is a firm favourite of mine that I've used for the past few years and always gets me a natural, sun kissed glow. Then St Tropez Purity Face Mist that I reviewed here is a more recent discovery but just as good, if not better, especially if you have combination or oily skin and you prefer a super light texture. It does contain fragrance but it is literally the finest and best smelling self tanner I've come across so far!
Overall I like Vita Liberata Invisi Foaming Tan Water, it's an amazing product I highly recommend. However, if you are new to self tanning I would suggest you'd rather start with a tinted product because it will help you more in getting a streak free tan. The clear version is definitely less messy and more practical in that you can get dressed and go out immediately after you use it but on the other hand it also makes the application process take a bit longer and the final colour is not always the same. You just need to have some practice with fake tanning to really get a flawless result.
