As most of you may already know, last month I travelled to Mykonos and I have to admit it was one of the places I was most excited to go back to. I was lucky enough to stay there for an entire week so I had time to explore the island and discover so many wonderful places..I've already written about some of the best beach clubs here but I somehow did not mange to show you more pictures of my trip on the blog. So I'm back with another post to share with you a few more tips and some of my favourite spots that I've found really nice and precious.
I liked all the Greek islands I've visited so far but Mykonos is downright special. If you put aside the insane winds, the island is absolutely charming, friendly and full of life. And even tough it's mainly famous for the party scene and glamorous lifestyle, it certainly offers a lot more than just fancy clubs and intense nightlife. If partying isn't your thing, you can definitely go there just to explore, eat and relax..there are so many peaceful places where you can wind down and soak up the sun far from the noisy crowds.
Things to do
1. Enjoy the beaches. Mykonos has some of the most beautiful beaches in Greece, each with its unique charm and vibe. If relaxation is what you need only, then Kalo Livadi, Elia, Ftelia and Agia Anna beaches are a perfect choice as they are more tranquil and pretty far from the partying beach spots.
2. Take a boat tour. It's a relaxing way to admire the natural scenery and see the island's main beaches in just one day. It really is a beautiful experience!
3. Explore the town. The streets are so pretty and nicely decorated, packed with stylish shops, lovely restaurants, tavernas and coffee terraces..Just wander through the cute alleys, visit the art galleries, enjoy a gelato and..take many pictures 🙂 Wherever you turn there is a perfect photo opportunity..Each corner, each street is so beautiful and charming, especially early morning when the town is not so crowded with tourists.
Shopping
In case you have some extra time and you love shopping, there are so many options..In Mykonos town you can find lots of chic designer boutiques, high end concept stores, souvenir and jewellery shops, an impressive collection of art galleries, home decoration and artisan shops that sell interesting hand made shoes, hats and lovely accessories. All are open from 9 am until late after midnight.
EAT
Breakfast with a view
The Liberty Breakfast Room is one the coolest breakfast spots in Mykonos. It is located on a hill and it has an open air terrace with stunning views over the sea and the town. I love it not only because of the hip vibe and absolutely gorgeous location but also because the dishes are so delicious and the prices totally fair. This is a great place to start your day but you can also go there for lunch or dinner. At sunset the views from the terrace are insane and the atmosphere is so nice.
Traditional Greek food in a relaxing setting
If you want to escape the crowds and have a tasty lunch in a dreamy and quiet location, you definitely have to visit Kalosta taverna. It's like an oasis of tranquility, the atmosphere is so chill and peaceful and the food absolutely delicious! They have a shaded, cozy terrace surrounded by plants and trees with spectacular views over the sea and Panormos beach.. It's such a lovely spot! Without a doubt one of my favourite places to eat in Mykonos.
BEST SUNSET VIEWS
180 Degrees Sunset Bar is one of the most impressive spots to watch the sunset in Mykonos. Amazing setting, relaxing atmosphere, nice lounge music..I really loved it. It's just a little hard to find but once you get there it will be totally worth it. The views are absolutely stunning!
For something more upscale and luxurious, I recommend the pool bar at Cavo Tagoo hotel. The cocktails are great, the atmosphere is very stylish and sensual, so is the music and the views are superb. You don't have to be staying at the hotel to have a drink or dine there so if you want a special evening with incredible views in a romantic ambiance, Cavo Tagoo is the place.
