MYKONOS – A GUIDE TO THE BEST SPOTS ON THE ISLAND

mykonos travel guide best beach spots

Mykonos is all about good vibes and style. Posh beach bars, fabulous parties, celebrities, chic people, cool restaurants and incredible energy..Think of all the glamour of St. Tropez and the party vibe of Ibiza rolled into one! All that plus some of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever laid my eyes on.

I’ve just returned from the most amazing week in this stunning island and having only visited this place once, I was so excited to go back and explore more. Eight magical days of bliss, breathtaking sunsets and so many wonderful places.. Mykonos is straight up fabulous!! And it really is one good looking island, with charming architecture, impressive views and dreamy beaches, yet I am going to admit I was not really blown away by the whole natural scenery – the landscape itself is rocky, the land is arid with barely any vegetation.. But I absolutely loved the vibe, the town, the people and that relaxed luxury feel in all those plush beach spots designed with so much good taste. Mykonos definitely has class. And an amazing atmosphere pretty much unlike anywhere else in Greece.

In case you are planning a visit, I’ve put together for you a few tips and a guide to some of the best spots  on the island.

Where to stay

Mykonos is a pretty small island – you can drive across it in half an hour, so it doesn’t really matter where you stay as long as you have a car. Still, Agios Stefanos, Platis Gialos and Ornos are in my opinion the most convenient as they are close both to Mykonos town and the most popular beaches.

Agios Stefanos is a tranquil area, pretty untouched by the mass tourism you find in other areas but be aware that you’ll have limited options when it comes to eating out nearby.

Platis Gialos is more touristy and family friendly, the beach is superb, well organised, lined with fancy restaurants, shops and luxurious hotels. The beachfront area is really beautiful and chic.

Ornos is one of the busiest areas on the island, hence my least favourite but it has the advantage of being very close to Mykonos town ( 5 min drive ) and other popular beaches.

If relaxation is what you need only, then you could also consider Kalo Livadi but it’s a bit far away, nearly 20 minutes by car from Mykonos town. The beach is gorgeous, the water is crystal clear, there are also a few nice, upscale restaurants and the atmosphere is very chill.

Beach clubs & restaurants

Mykonos is full of gorgeous places and this is no way a comprehensive list but just a few spots I truly liked..

 Scorpios

Magical! Scorpios is hands down the most amazing beach club in Mykonos and definitely one you should not miss. The setting, the ambiance, the music, the decor are absolutely mind blowing! Laid-back luxury atmosphere plus stunning views over the sea, delicious food and top notch service. This is a perfect place to chill by day and a super cool social party spot at night, with great music, lovely people and awesome vibe.

You can go there by day to relax on a sun bed ( book ahead ) or indulge in a Mediterranean lunch in one of their many lounge shaded areas. The place is quite chill until in the afternoon when the Sunset Rituals begin. Every day around 18:30 in the Sunset Beach area, various world renowned artists perform live music tuned to a unique rhythm with each day of the week. The atmosphere is..beyond magical. Almost surreal. It’s an experience that will most likely live with you long after your holiday has ended.

Principote

A perfect picture of class and elegance! Impressive design, exquisite ambiance, delightful food, spectacular sea views, perfect mood music..Principote is without a doubt one of the most refined and fancy beach bar-restaurants in Mykonos. If you like high end places this is an absolute must.

Located on Panormos beach, this is a great place to relax, soak up the sun on one of their luxury sunbeds or have a deluxe lunch. The restaurant has an exquisite Mediterranean menu including fresh fish, grilled meats, salads, sophisticated deserts and an extensive wine list and champagne. The level of service is top class and the suff are extremely welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend.

Kalua

Cool place, great vibe, lovely decor, nice music..Kalua is mainly famous for their afternoon parties, hip crowd and fantastic location. You’ll find it on Paraga beach, one of the most beautiful on the island. The food is very good, cocktails are great and the atmosphere incredibly uplifting. If you are after a party mood and socialising this is a perfect spot!
